About the blog

Okay, so here's the thing. There's this book, right? It's called 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. Yeah, you'll have heard of it. Now, I'm a self-professed book lover. Actually, it's pretty obvious to anyone who knows me even a little bit, that books are a pretty big deal to me. So I have decided I want to read all of these books. Because apparently these are the books I Must Read.

Now, there's an app as well. And in this app, you can keep track of your progress, by marking which books you have read, which you are currently reading, and which you are planning on reading. So far so good. Only, that's a bit boring isn't it? If all I were to do were to read the books and then tick them off one by one as I progressed down the list, that would quickly end up becoming just me trying to read as many books as possible as quickly as possible. This is where the blog comes in.

The blog will force me to reflect upon the books that I have read, because I'll have to come up with something clever to say about them. Also, since I'm studying to be a librarian, it's good to learn to think about books beyond "I like this" or "This is a boring book".

Now, if you're bored by this huge block of text by now, this is an okay place to stop. If you keep reading, you'll find information about the "logistics" of this blog. I completely understand if you don't find that interesting, so feel free to stop here, but if you're like me, you like to know how things work. So the following is for those who like to have all the details. You're welcome.

In the app, you can choose which edition of the Book you want to use for your List. I've chosen the 1st Edition, simply because that's the one I'd already read the most books from. There's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Edition, as well as the New Edition, the Essential and the Complete. Now, Essential and Complete don't actually have 1001 books on them, but 703 and 1305 respectively. 703 feels like cheating, and well, I want to actually finish before I die, which is why I didn't choose the Complete list. As it is, with the 1st Edition, the app has calculated that I will finish when I'm 50, that is if I read 3 books a month. I don't really know how many books I will read each month, but considering that someone these books are pretty heavy (Dostoyevsky, anyone?) and that I do have other books I want to read, studying to do, and a life that consist of more than just reading books, I started at 3. We'll see if I go up or down.

I may at times write reviews for books that are not on the List, but that will be marked clearly. Also, books from the list will have a number in the title of the review, which is the number of said book in the List. This will of course correspond with the 1st Edition.

I hope you found this useful, and also that my reading and reviewing may be an inspiration for you to read more!
