Hi!

My name is Martha, I'm 23 years old, and I love books.

That probably doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. I've started this blog because I want to read more, and I want to be more critical of the things that I read. All my life I've been reading books (well, since I was 5 or 6 anyway), but I've mostly been the consumer type. I read, I enjoy (or I don't enjoy) and I put the book away. End of story. But I want to change that, and become a "better" reader, as it were. So here we are. You can read more about that in the "about the blog" section.

My favorite kinds of books are fantasy and science fiction books. I also love "historical" novels of the Jane Austen style, YA novels and "chick-lit". I don't think I'll get to read overly much of the last two through this little project of mine, but we'll see. I might sneak some in there.

I'm studying to become a librarian, because my love for books means I want to work with something that is book-related, and also because I want to inspire others to read more. It makes me really sad when people tell me that they don't read much (or at all), so I want to be one of the people who work on changing that.

If you ask me what my favorite book is, I will say The Lord of the Rings every time. But if I have to compile a list of several favorites, I'm at a loss. Because there are just too many that I enjoy. In the words of the brilliant Neil Gaiman: "Picking five favorite books is like picking the five body parts you'd most like not to lose."

(Also, I suppose it bears mentioning that I hate writing these things because I never know what to say. They always end up sounding either like a job application or a dating site profile, neither of which are what I'm aiming for. So if you want to know more, you're going to have to ask.)
